Kavi® Members Help

Chapter 110. Configure Company Representative Signup

Overview

If your organization offers memberships to companies, use the Configure Company Representative Signup tool to configure options for the company representative signup form, define the signup process, and determine how moderation and domain checking are implemented to gate the signup process. This tool is also used to configure accepted domains enforcement for Company Representatives after signup. For more information, see Accepted Domains.

How Moderation and Accepted Domains Settings Interact

Moderation Options work in tandem with accepted domain checking, so you need to determine which combination gives you the desired effect. For the purposes of determining moderation behavior, domain checking is either off (i.e., Check Accepted Domains option is set to 'Never check domains') or enabled on signup (i.e., all other settings).

Table 110.1. Moderation and accepted domains interactions

Moderation Option setting Domain checking enabled? Behavior
Moderate all new users Disabled All applications are sent for moderation. No domain check is performed.
Enabled Applications that pass the domain check are sent for moderation. Applications that fail the check can't be submitted.
Moderate only users who fail the domain check Disabled Invalid combination. To use this Moderation Option, you must enable domain checking.
Enabled Company representative applications that pass the domain check are approved automatically. Applications that fail the domain check will be sent for moderation.
Do NOT moderate new users Disabled Domain checking on signup is ignored and moderation is disabled, since all applicants will pass through the moderation step automatically.
Enabled Applications that provide a primary email address with an accepted domain pass through the moderation step automatically.

How to Configure Company Representative Signup

Set Options

Configure signup form settings and define the signup process for company representatives. Before setting moderation and accepted domains options, see the table of Moderation and accepted domains interactions.

Check Accepted Domains

Select whether the domain of an email address provided by a user for a company representative account must appear on the list of email domains accepted by that user's company. If email addresses are to be checked for accepted domains, set the level at which this setting will apply.

Never check domains

Select this option if your organization wants to turn off all domain checking for company representatives.

On company representative signup

Select this option to force every user to provide an email address with a domain on the list of Company Accepted Domains when signing up on the company representative signup form. This option is recommended for most Web sites that wish to enforce domain checking as a screening mechanism.

On company representative signup and user tools

Select this option to force every user to provide an email address with a domain on the list of Company Accepted Domains when signing up on the company representative signup form, and to prevent users with established company representative accounts from switching their email addresses to non-company addresses though any user tools.

On company representative signup, user tools and company tools

Select this option to force every user to provide an email address with a domain on the list of Company Accepted Domains when signing up on the company representative signup form, and to prevent users with established company representative accounts from switching their email addresses to non-company addresses through any user tools. This setting also prevents users with access to Company Admin tools from entering non-company email addresses for Company Representatives.

On company representative signup, user tools, company tools and admin tools

Select this option to force every user to provide an email address with a domain on the list of Company Accepted Domains when signing up on the company representative signup form, and to prevent users with established company representative accounts from switching their email addresses to non-company addresses through any user tools. This setting also prevents users with access to Company Admin tools or Admin Area tools from entering non-company email addresses for Company Representatives.

Select Company from List

Most organizations set this option to 'Yes, display a list of member companies' to allow new company representatives to select their company from a list. Some organizations prefer to set this option to 'No, match company based on email domain' so that new company representatives are automatically assigned to a company based on matching email domains. For the matching process to work properly, the Unique Accepted Domains option must be enabled. For more information on how these options interact, see the Concepts document on Accepted Domains.

Unique Accepted Domains

Should accepted domains be unique to each company? This option should only be set to 'Yes' if your organization checks accepted domains on signup (see first option) AND hides the company list (see second option) so that new company representatives are matched with their company based on the domain of their email address. For more information on how these options interact, see Unique accepted domains in the Concepts document on Accepted Domains.

In other configuration scenarios, most organizations find the benefits of enabling this option marginal in contrast with the increased support burden.

Set options to define how Company Representative applications are screened. Before setting these options, see the table of Moderation and accepted domains interactions.
