Chapter 55. Mailing List Home

Overview

The Mailing List Home page displays information about a specific mailing list and provides links to all the tools you need to manage this list, your list subscription if you are a subscriber and the list's archives (if archives exist for this list).

Use the Mailing List Home page to:

  • If you are a subscriber, you can manage your subscription.

  • View mailing list archives.

  • Access tools that allow you to edit or delete this mailing list.

  • Edit this mailing list's subscribers or cross-posters.

  • View the Subscriber Report and Subscriber Logs.

How to Use Mailing List Home

Options

Use these options to view and manage this mailing list, subscribers and cross-posters.

The following options may be displayed:

Archives

Click this to access the List Archives tool and view this mailing list's archives. If there are no web-viewable archives for this mailing list, this link is not displayed.

Change Subscription

Click this link if you want to change the type of subscription you are receiving, such as changing from a regular subscriber to a digest subscriber.

Subscribe or Unsubscribe

Click one of these links to instantly subscribe or unsubscribe. These links are only displayed if you are eligible to subscribe or unsubscribe under mailing list rules.

Edit

Click this link to access the Edit a Mailing List tool if you want to edit this list.

Subscriber Report

Click this link to access the Subcriber Report tool if you want more detailed information about subscribers.

Edit Subscribers

Click this link to access the Edit a List's Subcribers tool if you want to view or edit this list's subscribers.

Edit Cross-Posters

Click this link to access the Edit Cross-Posters tool if you want to view or edit which other mailing list's subscribers can cross-post to this mailing list.

Subscriber Logs

Click this link to access the Subscriber Logs tool for this mailing list.

Moderate Pending Messages

This link to the Moderate Pending Messages tool is displayed if there are messages in the moderation queue. Click this link if you want to moderate messages.

Delete

Click this link to access the Delete a Mailing List tool if you want to delete this list.

Fields

View information about this mailing list.

The following fields may be displayed:

List Name

The name of this mailing list.

List Type

The List Type on which this mailing list's configuration is based. Click Details for more information on this List Type's configuration settings.

Description

A description of this mailing list, especially its topic and purpose.

Last Message

The date and time that the most recent message was posted to this mailing list. This is an indicator of how active the list is.

Number of Subscribers

The number of subscribers for this mailing list. This is commonly an indicator of how private or open the list is.

Web Availability

This field displays the Web Available setting for this mailing list, indicating who can see and subscribe to this mailing list through webpages.

Number of Messages

The number of messages posted to this mailing list. This is an indicator of the amount of activity on the list and the size of its archives.

Maximum Allowed Message Size

The message size limit for this mailing list. This is configured through the Set Maximum Allowed Message Size tool in the Super Admin Area.

Subscription

A description of your subscription and links you can use to change your subscription status. If subscribed, this will include whether you are subscribed as a regular or digest subscriber.

If you are not eligible to subscribe, this field displays the message 'Sorry, this list is not open for subscription'. Some top-level administrators will see this message.

Email Command Help

A link you can click if you would like to receive a list of ezmlm email address commands. Click this link to open a window with the request information prefilled. When you send this email, the mailing list responds by sending you an email with a list of email commands that you can save for future reference. All you have to do to use an email command is send an email with the command in the To: address field.

Policy and Usage

This mailing list's Policy and Usage Statement. New subscribers should study the Policy and Usage Statement before submitting any posts. Be sure to enter a Policy and Usage Statement for your new list, even if it is brief. A good Policy and Usage Statement helps set the tone of the list, contributes to the quality of list content and reduces user support requests by providing answers to key questions. For more information, see the Concepts documentWriting Policy and Usage Statements. A Sample Policy and Usage Statement is also provided for inspiration. You are welcome to use any or all of this sample to help craft a statement that fits the goals and policies of your mailing list and organization.
